Avoiding Viruses - How to avoid computer viruses

Computer viruses can be avoided by implementing some simple and easy rules. Try to learn and remember these tips and tricks. Here are some tips for avoid computer virus.

  1. Your antivirus tools loaded into memory and antivirus software should be active each time the PC starts.
  2. If you can not keep antivirus tools running be sure to scan removable media (eg. pen drive) and downloads for viruses before you use them.
  3. Back up your important work files and entire system regularly. So, this would not help you prevent from viruses but regular backups can help you to recover if a virus should slip through and cause trouble on your computer system.
  4. Keep the signature files updated on a regular basis. Download directly from your antivirus makers website. Or make sure that your automatic update option of antivirus is turn on.
  5. Write-protect your removable media ( such as pen drive ).
  6. Configure your antivirus software to scan your system periodically.
  7. Avoid questionable downloads on the net.
  8. Avoid email attachments from sources that you do not know. Many virus attacks are lunched by email as attachments sent with urgent sounding subject lines. When you are asked to open the attached (infected) file/files, the virus is introduced to your computer system. To avoid this kind of virus attack, scan all your email attachments before opening them.
